| This is the third year a Carolinas Student Turf Bowl Competition was held at the annual CGCSA meeting in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The competition was organized by CGCSA and Emily Erickson, a turfgrass instructor at North Carolina State. The format for the competition was Jeopardy-type questions covering all aspects of turfgrass science and management. | |
| Schools participating in the competition included Clemson, North Carolina State, Sandhills Community College, Wayne Community College, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, and Central Piedmont Community College. Each school was allowed to enter two teams. Clemson won first place and was awarded a trophy and $500. Second place was a tie between Horry-Georgetown Technical College and Sandhills Community College. Both of the second place schools were awarded $250. | |

The winning Clemson team included; Brian Harmon (senior and Clemson Turf
Club President), Brandon Haley (senior and Clemson Turf Club Vice
President), Nick Price (senior and Clemson Turf Club Official), and Brent
Jackson (senior). The other Clemson team included Ray McCauley, Greg
Willis and Steve Long. Dr. Haibo Liu advises the Clemson Turf Club. Congratulations Clemson! |
