My summer internship was at The Bridge in the Hamptons of New York. The Rees Jones designed course did not open until July of this year. My duties went well beyond the daily maintenance of the golf course. As one of five interns, I was responsible for much of the hand syringing of the tee complexes. I calibrated chemical equipment and made applications. I learned and practiced many cultural practices such as topdressing, verticutting, brushing, and spiking. This led me to learn how to keep green speeds very fast during a drought filled summer in a northern climate. This internship allowed me to grow as a person and learn many things about how I want to run a golf course when I become a superintendent.
