Experience: In order to further gain knowledge in the turfgrass management field, I did a summer internship at The Walker Course in Clemson, South Carolina.  The superintendent at The Walker Course is Don Garrett and the assistant superintendent is Adam Charles.  Don and Adam are responsible for teaching me most of the on-hand knowledge that I have.  During the summer, they exceeded my expectations as to what I was going to learn from them.  Anyone thinking of pursuing a career in turfgrass management could benefit from doing an internship at The Walker Course with Don and Adam.  During my internship, I was allowed to perform many tasks that are important if becoming a golf course superintendent.  I was allowed to calibrate rotary spreaders and the John Deere spray unit.  About mid-way through the summer, I began to spray the greens and tees with pesticides and fertilizers. This was probably the most important task that I had the opportunity to be exposed to.  I also was responsible for setting up the golf course throughout the summer.  I also performed the basic things involved in turfgrass maintenance such as mowing greens, tees, fairways, and the rough. Aerifying the greens, tees, and fairways was a task that I also became familiar with.  The tasks that I have mentioned are only a small portion of the things that I was able to perform during my internship at The Walker Course.  I learned a great deal of beneficial things over the summer.  I am extremely lucky to have been able to learn from Don and Adam.  I would recommend doing an internship under Don and Adam to anyone.
