FIRST FRIDAY
NATURE WALKS

 

Meet at the Red Caboose
April - October at 7 a.m.
November - March at 9 a.m.

Dr. David Bradshaw, the Garden's naturalist, leads a fun and informative walk in the Garden every first Friday of the month. Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate dress. Walks last between one and two hours. These walks are more geared for adults though children are welcome. Free!

The 3rd Saturday of the month is Meet the Featured Artist Day at the Fran Hanson Discovery Center. Artwork is available in the Garden Gift Shop located in the Center. Call Christine Drais for details on the artists or to become a featured artist at 656-6205 or email her. **Please note that during home football games, the Discovery Center will be closed.


The Elizabeth Belser Fuller Gallery
Come see this marvelous collection of artwork by a special friend of the SCBG, Elizabeth Belser Fuller. Her work, using a variety of media, features paintings from the island of Dominica, which were on display as part of the Wren House Southern Living Showcase Home project in 1998. Other artwork includes images taken from the Garden and some of her other favorite spots in South Carolina. This new area of the building will also be used as learning and meeting space for SCBG visitors and friends.

3rd Saturdays


Every 3rd Saturday of the month is Friends of the Garden Day. Friends of both the SCBG and the Campbell Geology Museum enjoy the following benefits today! Friends memberships start at the $25 level and are tax deductible.

  • Free Admisssion to the Campbell Geology Museum ~ 10am - 5pm
  • Free Cup of Coffee at the Garden Gift Shop ~ 10am - 4pm
  • Free Nature Walks ~ 10am from the Discovery Center - see below for schedule

Flow Yoga is a course ideal for beginner/intermediate and experienced yoga students alike. The core of each class consists of vinyasa or "flow" yoga in addition to a focus on the ashtanga primary series of poses designed to increase strength and flexibility. Breathing techniques are also practiced to reduce stress, induce relaxation and clarity of mind.

Renee Gahan is a practitioner of ashtanga yoga, has taken yoga teacher training at Atlanta Yoga as well as received a teacher training certificate with David Swenson. She continues to study under Todd Roderick of Athens, GA, a leading yoga practitioner of the southeast. Email Renee at clemsonyoga@yahoo.com for more information. Class is limited to12 students per session. Bring a yoga mat to class. Drop-ins welcome. A free session is offered on the 3rd Saturday of the Month from 11am-Noon. ** Please note: Holiday Schedules - No class 11/25 for Thanksgiving and no class 12/16 - 1/6. Will resume 1/13/05 for new year as usual.

Vermicomposting
Workshop

January 29
Worm composting or "vermicomposting" is a great way to speed up your composting efforts. In this hands-on workshop, you will investigate the components of a thriving worm bin and learn more about putting these fascinating creatures to work. Includes worms and supplies to start putting worms to work at home in your garden! Complete kits may be ordereed during the workshop with the instructor.

Tuition: $20, includes worm bin plans

Feb. 2
Join us in welcoming the 2005 Nature-Based Sculpture Artist, Nils Udo of Germany tonight as he shares a special presentation at the Lee Hall Auditorium. The lecture will include a slide presentation and interesting approach in using nature based materials to create his artwork. Nils Udo will be in residence at the SCBG during the month of February to create a site-specific work of art. To find out more about the SCBG Sculpture program, click here.

Winter Lecture Series returns to the SCBG at the Hayden Conference Center. Space is limited, so register early for this exciting schedule of lectures that is sure to expand your knowledge about the world of plants and gardens. Social and registration begins at 9:30 am, with the program beginning at 10am. For programs with two presentations, both are included in the registration fee.

of ETV's radio program "Got Bugs" will share their insight and appreciation for your backyard bugs and help you decide the best course of treatment for your garden guests.

De-mystifying Plant Health with Meg Williamson
of Clemson University's Plant Problem Clinic believes keeping plants growing well is a key to their pest and disease resistance. Learn ways to avoid plant diseases by proper cultural practices and by making better plant choices.

Our Favorite Plants: Current Picks from Garden Staff with Lisa Wagner
SCBG horticulture and education staff share their favorite trees, shrubs & perennials in this fascinating program & reflect on their own gardening approaches.

Propagation Techniques for Gardeners with Ted Stephens
Interested in grafting, growing plants from cuttings, or starting plants from seed? Join the co-owner of Nurseries Caroliniana of North Augusta in this inspiring workshop about plant propagation. **Fee for this program is $20 and is limited to 40.

The Unplanned Garden with Margot Rochester
Author of "Earthly Delights: Gardening by the Seasons the Easy Way" shares her passion for gardening with her "Garden of Happy Accidents" approach to gardening as a chaos of bountiful, diverse, fragrant and colorful gardens that make the gardener's heart leap with joy.

The Well-Designed Garden with Marian St. Clair
As a counterpoint, Marian's approach is a combination of site considerations, the gardener's vision and taste, structural elements, and plant material.


Tuition:
$12 per day for Friends; $15 for non-members
$50 for the Series with the 2/19 Propagation Workshop; $30 for the Series without the Propagation Workshop. *Series is available to Friends only.
