The kit should include the following: 1. A plastic trash barrel with a lid. 2. Tarpaulins. 3. Water buckets. 4. First aid items. Your veterinarian, the S.C. Horsemen's Council of the S.C. Cattlemen's Association will be able to help identify what should be included. 5. A portable radio, a flashlight and extra batteries. 6. Fire-resistant, non-nylon leads and halters. 7. A sharp knife and wire cutters. 8. Leg wraps. Disposable baby diapers make good emergency wraps or bandages. 9. Lime and bleach. 10. Portable pens or crates, if appropriate. The list of phone numbers should include: 1. Your local veterinarian, with back-up numbers. 2. Your county Emergency Preparedness Office. 3. Your county animal control office. 4. Your local humane society or Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. 5. The nearest S.C. Horsemen's Council or nearest livestock representative. 6. Your county's Clemson Extension Service office. For further information, contract the Extension Service office in your county, the S.C. Horsemen's Council (803-734-2187) or the Clemson University Livestock/Poultry Health Program (LPHP) (803-788-2260). Stabling information is available through the S.C.
