DATE: 9/5/00 CONTACT: Allen Dunn, (864) 656-3215 WRITER: Diane Palmer, (864) 656-4741 Dunn elected to chair of southern region of national association CLEMSON -- Allen Dunn, director of Clemson University's School of Natural Resources, has been elected chair of the southern region of the National Association of Professional Forestry Schools and Colleges. The association was formed in 1981 to enhance and protect the nation's forests, rangelands and associated natural resources. Its primary goal is to advance the science, practice and art of natural resource management through the support of natural resource education, research, extension and international programs at the university level. It includes 67 organizations representing university faculty, scientists and extension specialists. The southern region is composed of 16 universities. Dunn came to Clemson in 1973 as professor of Forest Resources and was appointed head of that department in 1993. In 1995 he was named director of the School of Natural Resources. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in forest resources from the University of Georgia. END
