Welcome to the GSS Homepage

The Graduate Student Seminar is designed and organized by graduate students. It will take place on Monday afternoons at 4:30 in Martin M-102. Pizza, soft drinks, and brownies are provided following the seminar. (Don't plan on showing up right when the talk is over just to sneak some pizza. We watch out for that.)

The purpose of the GSS is to:

  • Eat snacks or pizza.
  • Provide a forum for students to talk in an informal and unpressured way about their work to other graduate students. Ph.D. students and 2nd year MS students may wish to talk about their own research - at a level geared toward second year students as an audience. However, the seminar is not strictly a forum for original research. Speakers may also wish to give a general background talk on topics of interest to them or on potential research topics.
  • Provide exposure to research level mathematics.
  • Share ideas.
  • Gain speaking experience.
  • Gain heckling experience.
  • Get to know each other better.
  • Eat snacks or pizza.
