Kaiserslautern Exchange Program

The Department of Mathematical Sciences, Clemson University, and the Department of Mathematics at the University of Kaiserslautern in Kaiserslautern, Germany, offer a  Graduate Exchange Program in Mathematical Sciences. This is an innovative exchange program enabling Clemson students to obtain two graduate degrees and a cross-cultural, educational experience from Germany.

 

Eligibility

Every second-year (or higher) graduate student at Clemson.

This is a two-and-a-half-year program:

Financial Aid

There is no tuition charged for study at Kaiserslautern. Assistantships covering living expenses are also offered.

Final Degrees

The student obtains a Master of Science degree in Mathematical Sciences from Clemson University and a Master's degree or German Diploma in Mathematics International from the University of Kaiserslautern.

Location

The University of Kaiserslautern is located in the state of Rheinland-Pfalz, 70 miles from Frankfurt, a city with the biggest airport in Europe. It is a leading technical university in Germany with a student body of over 9,000 students. The Department of Mathematics at this university has been the first mathematics department in Germany to receive a German federal government grant for the program Mathematics International. Participants of the program are German and foreign students in approximately equal numbers.

Language

All lectures are held in English, which makes Kaiserslautern a unique place in Germany, and most likely in Europe, with this kind of program.

Curriculum in Germany

Students can choose to specialize in one of the following five areas:
  1. Algebraic Geometry and Computer Algebra
  2. Financial Mathematics
  3. Applicable Analysis and Probability
  4. Industrial Mathematics: Modeling and Scientific Computing
  5. Optimization and Statistics
A single master's project will suffice for both degrees.

The deadline for applications in Germany is May 15.
