Mark A. Small, JD,

Professor
Mark A. Small (BA, MA, University of Nevada-Las Vegas; JD, Ph.D., University of Nebraska-Lincoln) is a professor of psychology.
He formerly held faculty appointments at the University of South Carolina and Southern Illinois University. Prof. Small has served as principal investigator on grant projects funded by agencies within the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and private foundations within South Carolina.
Currently, he is the principal investigator for the South Carolina Rural Communities Compassion Project, a multi-year, multi-million dollar initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to build the capacity of rural faith- and community-based organizations in South Carolina to provide child and family services.
He is also studying the contributions of catholic sisters who have been serving in South Carolina. Prof. Small's publications focus largely on family life, child maltreatment, community development, and justice. Having served as a Fulbright scholar in the Czech Republic in 2004 and 2006, Prof. Small is increasingly engaged in international scholarship and service, with foci on the development of non-profit organizations and rural services.
Prof. Small also
has served as an officer of the American Psychology
- Law Society and a member of the American Psychological
Association Committee on Legal Issues. He is a member
of the bar in Illinois (now on inactive status).
