Asher Ben-Arieh (Ph.D., Hebrew University) is a visiting professor in 2004-05. Prof. Ben-Arieh is a faculty member in Social Work at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and he is also the associate director of the National Council for the Child, a major non-governmental advocacy organization in Israel.
Since 1990, he has edited the annual report on
the well-being of children in Israel, and he currently leads the national
committee for children and youth at risk. Prof. Ben-Arieh is also an
affiliated faculty member at Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University
of Chicago, where he was an international research fellow during a previous
sabbatical. The leader of a global network of researchers on indicators
of child well-being, Prof. Ben-Arieh leads or serves on related panels
of Childwatch International, the European Union, and the United Nations.
