Through the Federal PLUS Loan program, parents of dependent undergraduate students may borrow up to the annual cost of attendance minus any other financial aid that the student receives for the year. Independent students are not eligible.

Eligibility for a PLUS loan is based on the parent's creditworthiness and not on financial need.

In order to use PLUS loan proceeds for payment, Clemson University must have written (or electronic) approval notification directly from the lender. Pre-screened credit approvals do not guarantee that a loan will ultimately be approved and cannot be used for payment purposes.

Repayment of PLUS loans begin 60 days after the last disbursement is made for the year. Interest rates are variable but are capped at 9%. An origination fee is deducted from the proceeds of an approved loan. Your lender will have specific details about the interest rates and origination fees.
