The Computer Project: Creating a Website
30% of grade (adding together
all the parts)
By the second week of the semester,
I will ask you to start forming research groups, linking up with people
in class who are interested in the same SF subject or author or area. Groups
should contain 3-6 people. Working with this group, you will go through
several stages in preparing, presenting, testing, then publishing your
website:
Parts of the Assignment
-
Proposal 5%
-
Final Presentation of Site to Class 5%
-
Browser Testing
-
Site Installation 20%
What Your Proposal
Has to Do (this will be written and turned into me for a grade--everybody
in group gets the same grade)
-
Explain what kind of a web site your group wants
to build
-
Review what's already on the web
-
Tell what your site is going to contribute to
the sf and web community -- especially in terms of content (this will probably
involve at least starting to do some research in print sources in the library)
-
Narrow your task to a do-able level of specificity
-
Include list of at least 5 web sites, 5 academic
articles, and 10 SF works you are using
What your Final
Presentation of Site to Class should do (this will be presented
in class, in the lab. All your graphics and html files should fit on one
disk which we can project on the big screen. 10 minutes max. Should also
have a black & white print-out of all pages and links to turn into
teacher):
-
Show the class what your site will look like,
including all the pages and all the links.
Browser
Testing
After you have revised your site according to
the feedback from the class and teacher at your presentation, you will
need to test how it looks on a variety of different browsers, monitors,
and platforms. This will probably cause you to make a few more last minute
changes to enhance legibility.
Site
Installation
Once your site has been approved by the teacher,
you can load it onto the web. Final 20% of grade will be based on how it
works and looks and how much of a contribution your site makes to the Web.
I hope we'll have time to gather feedback from outside the class as well.
