Chapter 1 --RD
    * Introduces Rick, quarreling with wife Iran
    * Penfield mood organ-- man/machine, lack of emotions
     *World War Terminus
   * Rick envious of neighbor's horse
    * Rick tries to buy horse's offspring, reveals his fake sheep

Chapter 2--JI
    * Introduces Isidore: chickenhead
    * Introduces Mercerism and fusion:  opposition btw killers and the revivers
    * Isidore hears someone downstairs

Chapter 3-- RD
    * Police station
    * Inspector Bryant informs Rick of Dave Holder's injury
    * Readers introduced to android/nexus-6 concept
    * Empathy = only way to tell difference
    * Rick calls animal shop about ostrich, too expensive

Chapter 4 --RD
    * Bryant's office, situation fully explained
    * Sent to Rosen Association
    * Rick arrives, greeted by Rachael
    * Sees the corporation's animals, especially owl

Chapter 5--RD
    * Rachael is given the test
    * Rick concludes that she is an android
    * They try to convince him that she is an abnormal human
    * He retests her, catches them in the lie, leaves satisfied

    * Isidore makes apology call to owner, gains self-confidence

Chapter 8
    * Police station, Rick assigned to go check out Polokov
    * Rachael offers Rick her help, is refused
    * Rick is surprised by Polokov, barely kills him
    * Rick leaves for the opera to get next android

Chapter 9
    * Inside "enormous whale-belly" opera house (p. 85)
        Plot summary of Magic Flute
    * Rick watches opera then confronts Luba Luft
    * Rick is arrested by "police", taken away

Chapter 10
    * At Mission Street "police office" (PARALLEL POLICE ORGANIZATION)
    * Taken to police chief Garland’s office
    * Conversation between Rick, Garland, and Resch
    * Resch leaves to get testing equipment

Chapter 11
    * Garland tells Rick that Resch is an android
    * Resch comes back, is fired upon and kills Garland
    * They set out for Opera House
    * Resch starts to suspect that he’s a rep

Chapter 12
    * In museum next to opera house
    * Find and kill Luft (after Rick buys her favorite painting) Munch, Puberty
    * Resch tests out to be human after all
    * Rick realizes he has a soft spot for female androids

Chapter 13
    * Isidore brings groceries home for dinner with Pris
    * Pris alludes to her true nature
    * Roy and Irmgard Baty arrive

Chapter 14
    * The Batys discuss situation w/ Pris
    * Isidore realizes that they are androids
    * Tells them that he’ll help anyway

Chapter 15
    * Androids vote to stay and not to kill Isidore
    * Rick buys goat with $3000
    * Brings the goat home, shows it to his wife
    * They "give thanks" to Mercer via fusion
    * Rick calls Rachael, taking her up on her offer of help

Chapter 16
    * Hotel room
    * Rachael reveals that Pris will look like her
    * Rachael promises to kill Pris, they go to bed together

Chapter 17
    * Rick realizes he has been used
    * Rick tries to make himself kill Rachael, but can’t

Chapter 18
    * Isidore finds spider in hallway
    * The androids mutilate the spider
    * Buster Friendly finally makes his big announcement
    * Mercer supposedly a fake
    * Roy Baty reveals that Buster & friends are androids
    * Isidore undergoes a weird “tomb world” acid-type trip
    * Alarm goes off; human has been detected nearby.

Chapter 19
    * Isidore sent to investigate, ends up going downstairs
    * Rick comes across Isidore freeing "new" spider
    * Isidore refuses to lead Rick to androids
    * Rick kills Pris (after being warned by Mercer)
    * Rick tricks and kills the Batys

Chapter 20
    * Isidore sees the remains of the Batys, then leaves
    * Rick finds that Rachael killed his goat
    * Rick very depressed and leaves the city

Chapter 21
    * Out in desert
    * Rick attempts to get in contact with Dave Holder
    * Rick starts climbing mountain, is hit by rocks, scrambles down.
    * Rick talks with his secretary
    * Weird stuff about him “being Mercer”, “Mercer is immortal”

Chapter 22
    * Finds toad in the desert
    * Suddenly his depression is gone, hurries home
    * Discovers that it is a mechanical toad
    * Rick goes to sleep
    * Iran orders mechanical flies for the toad.
