Insects in Precipitation mode, part 3
The following images from the GSP Greer, SC radar operating in Precipitation mode show more insects and bats. Notice the similarity between these images and bird exodus during nocturnal migration. The reflectivity image shows patterns reminiscent of bird hotspots, with patches of higher reflectivity in more uniform low reflectivity. However, the velocity image shows characteristic low velocities of insect and bat targets. Note also that several isolated showers are visible, most easily seen north of the station near the 60 nm range ring (the second white ring from center).
