Graduate
Overview
The
Master of Agricultural Education is a professional degree designed to
enhance the human resource skills in agriculture and education. The flexible
program provides a core of planning, delivery, evaluation, and administrative
strategies while encouraging specialization in teacher education, adult
and extension education, agricultural communications, youth development
or technology transfer. Degree recipients hold positions as agriculture
teachers, extension agents, agricultural and environmental agency employees,
as well as human resource development specialists in agricultural industry.
Admissions Requirements - Completion of Bachelor's Degree
from an approved institution. Minimum overall G.P.A of 2.75 completed and a satisfactory score on the G.R.E.
Advisor Selection - The student may choose his/her advisor; however, an advisor will be appointed until one is selected. All members of the Agricultural Education faculty are eligible to serve as an advisor. Once an advisor is chosen, the student must clear this with the Department Chair.
Committee Members - A minimum of three (3) faculty members
must serve on the graduate student's committee. Members may be selected
from any department in the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life
Sciences. In all cases, the majority of the committee members must be
from the Agricultural Education Department, including the chairman.
The committee must be selected within the first semester.
Admission Procedures
- Fill out the application form. For paper, please print all information carefully. For electronic, please do not use punctuation.
- If you have not already done so, register for the GRE. The Information and Registration Bulletin may also be obtained by contacting your institution or ETS (P.O. Box 6000, Princeton, New Jersey 08541-6000 USA). GRE scores must be sent directly from Educational Testing Service and scores must not be older than five years relative to the date of acceptance.
- If you have already taken the appropriate test(s), request that the Educational Testing Service forward official copies of your score(s) to Clemson University (institution code, 5111).
- Complete the Financial Assistance Application
(http://www.grad.clemson.edu/f_financial.html).
- Request two (2) official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and/or universities. Please request that the registrar's office at each institution provide official transcripts of your academic work in sealed envelope(s) with official signature over seal. Refer to Transcript Request Form – GSTR
(http://www.grad.clemson.edu/p_general.html).
- Please complete the GS 35 - Request for Certification of South Carolina Residency Form ( http://www.grad.clemson.edu/p_general.html ) if you indicate South Carolina as your state of legal residence.
- The personal statement should not be included with these materials in the application envelope or with supporting documents. The application packet or package of supporting documents should only include the materials requested.
- Make copies of your application and other forms for your files in case any questions arise or in case materials are lost in the mail.
- Mail all application materials, including a $50 application fee for each program you have applied, if not paid by credit card, directly to the Graduate School. Be reminded that your application will not be processed without the fee and that Clemson University cannot waive or defer the fee. If application fees are not received within 60 days, the application will be discarded.

MASTER OF AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION PLAN OF STUDY

AG ED 821 - Theories and Practices of Adult Educaiton

Concentration Area outside of Agricultural Education - 6 Credit Hours

*Assistantship candidate will be required to conduct a research project
- GPA – 3.0 Minimum
- Program to be completed within six years
- Written and/or oral exam
- At least half of courses must be at the 700 level or above
- GS-2 Form (Approved Plan) due after completing 12 or more hours
- GS-4 Form (Diploma Order) deadlines – early June, early September, late January (Admission to candidacy)
- GS-7 Form (Examination Form) due shortly after written/oral exam
Graduate
School Forms and Deadlines
GS2
Form (Approved Plan): This
form should be submitted following the completion of 12 - 15 hours of
coursework. Forms are available in the Agricultural Education Office.
The advisor (chairman) will assist the student in completing this form.
It must be approved by the other committee members, department head,
dean of college, and dean of the graduate school. (See the current graduate
school catalog for dates.)
GS4 Form (Diploma Order): The advisor will assist the student
with this form. It is the student's responsibility to see that the proper
deadline is met. (For deadline dates, see the current graduate school
catalog.)
GS7 Form (Examination Form): Following or nearing the completion
of coursework, the student must schedule the final exam. The committee
members will submit comprehensive questions related to courses completed
by the student. The advisor will be responsible for completing and submitting
the GS7 Form. It is the student's responsibility to see that the exam
is scheduled and completed prior to the deadline. (See the current graduate
