DESCRIPTION
This educational curriculum has been developed to assist the classroom teacher in teaching fire safety skills to children in daycare centers, kindergarten, and 1st grade. This material will teach the child what fire is, what fire can do, and ways to protect themselves and their families in a home fire situation. This will supplement the present "Get Fired Up!" program developed for 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade-level students that has been distributed statewide for the past seven years. The K-1st grade curriculum provides the teacher with a teacher's manual, puppets, a video, student workbooks, and supplemental teaching aids.
This program has now been introduced in 42 counties.
SIGNIFICANCE
Young children are a high-risk group with fire being a leading cause of death due to injury in the age group 0-4. Therefore, fire safety education must become a top priority. Education is the key to prevention.
