Nutrition Information
The Nutrition Information & Resource Center (NIRC) has an informational website,
Nutri-Web with online fact
sheets that can be downloaded and printed. Nutri-Web also has links to many
other food and nutrition websites, making it a great place to begin searching for information on any
nutrition-related topic. These websites have been evaluated for accuracy, objectivity, currency, coverage, and
design and format.
The Clemson Extension Home and Garden Information Center (HGIC) is
another excellent source of information. South Carolina residents can access the HGIC by calling this toll-free
number 1-888-656-9988. Nearly 600 recorded messages on nutrition, food safety and preservation, landscaping,
gardening, plant health and other information are available 24 hours a day. You may also speak directly to an
Information Specialist from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Monday through Friday. Over 400 fact sheets are available on the
HGIC website.
You may subscribe to an electronic newsletter, "Nourishing News." This
newsletter can help keep you informed of news affecting food, nutrition and health. An
archive of past issues is also available online.
You may also submit questions about various nutrition and food science topics through an email question and
answer system (nutrweb@clemson.edu).
Nutrition Resource
The NIRC has a lending library with the inventory of listings maintained on the
Nutri-Web site. The materials
consist of books, journals, nutrition education curriculums, nutrition activities and displays, and audiovisuals
covering a broad range of topics from children's literature to technical nutrition information.
Nutrition Center
The NIRC is part of the Food Science and Human Nutrition
Department, and is located in Room C-228 in the
Poole Agricultural Center. The center serves as the library for the educational resources, and a site where
educators can preview materials. Please call 864-656-7899 to make an appointment.
