Dear Tiger
Band Supporter:
Larry and I are
writing to you today because we know that you want the best for Tiger
Band. We are members of CUTBA – The
Clemson University Tiger Band Association – and we want to present to you what
we feel is a powerful way for you to be involved in Tiger Band far into the
future. We are Larry Sloan (Class of
1974), and Ed Evans (Class of 1972).
We are
talking about Endowments to CUTBA – either directly to the CUTBA Scholarship
Fund, or to CUTBA itself as an unrestricted
gift. We call it the Tiger Band
Commitment. Whether it is in the
form of a Gift, a Bequest in a Will, as a Beneficiary of an IRA or life
insurance, or by whatever means you wish to use, such a committed pledge would help ensure the future well-being of Tiger
Band. Our goal is to raise Two Million Dollars in committed
pledges to CUTBA by June 30, 2008.
Endowment
pledges should not be seen as something for “the well off,” or “something I
can’t take the time to do right now.”
Making a pledge does not have to be difficult or uncomfortable. Pledges do not require an immediate cash
outlay – just a commitment of future funds to CUTBA or the CUTBA Endowment. The
Clemson Foundation is ready and willing to assist you through the paperwork
involved, as are we. Enclosed with this
letter is the Tiger Band Commitment pamphlet, which Karmen Kingsmore has
put together to show the many ways an Endowment can be made. Karmen is a CUTBA Board Member,
and a professional Financial Advisor.
As an
exciting new way for you to get involved, Tiger Band is creating Naming Opportunities for the various
Tiger Band positions, classes, and sections.
You may now have your name (or that of a loved one) permanently
inscribed in Tiger Band. Whether it is
the Joe Smith Class of 1981, the Mary Jones First piccolo, or the Robert Adams
Flag Corps, you can be a part of Tiger Band forever, and your committed pledge
to CUTBA will also be there to support the band through the years to come.
It is very clear that Clemson’s aspirations to become one of the
nation’s finest public universities must coincide with the development of high
caliber performing arts opportunities such as Tiger Band. Mark Spede, Director
of Bands, has an inspiring vision for the band. His desire to see Clemson
become a destination for some of the nation’s brightest and most talented
musicians is one we should all embrace as former members.
Here are Mark’s thoughts on the Tiger Band Commitment – “Each year it becomes more critical that
Clemson attract outstanding band students. Although we have much to offer at
Clemson, potential students are often pulled to other universities who can
offer them more scholarship money. Just as the football program has dedicated
itself to improving its facilities through the West Zone project, so must we
improve our endowment situation. I am very proud of
our work the last four years to not only put an outstanding band on the field
each Saturday, but to nurture our students through life skills that only Tiger Band
can provide. Please help us to continue to make Tiger Band one of the top bands
in the country, both on the field and off!”
Tiger Band,
under the superb direction of Dr. Mark Spede, has accomplished many great
things in the past few years. 2005 was
the 50th anniversary of Tiger Band, and we celebrated this with our
distinctive and unique two-top uniforms in true Clemson colors. Tiger Band is
growing – we will have a new section, the Tiger
Dancers, this year and we expect to march at 230 strong this year. To top off the football season, Tiger Band
soundly trounced the Marching Buffaloes at a Fear Factor competition at Universal Studios during last years Champ’s
Sports Bowl.
Larry and I
hope that you see this as we do – as an opportunity to help Tiger Band by
looking to the future. Please help us
create this vital legacy to Tiger Band. We hope
that you are as excited about this as we are –as Larry and I have
already named CUTBA in our Wills.
“I included CUTBA in my Will because
Tiger Band was so instrumental in structuring the rest of my career and
life. In addition to my parents and my great wife, Cindy, I owe a debt of
sincere gratitude to Dr. John Butler, Mr. Jim Copenhaver and Dr. Bruce
Cook for teaching me responsibility, hard work ethics and dedication. We
remain close friends even today.” Larry Sloan
“I love Clemson. I love Clemson with every fiber of my
being. And the biggest reason I love
Clemson is the friends, the camaraderie, and outright FUN I had as a member of
Tiger Band. And I want that feeling to
continue in Tiger Band for years to come.
So I have included CUTBA in my Will as well.” Ed Evans
As stated
earlier, we are here to assist you. You
may contact any of us below for any questions you may have. Please let us hear
back from you with your committed pledge –
in any amount or manner you wish to make - to the CUTBA Endowment. Tiger Band needs your support. Won’t you consider making a pledge to CUTBA
today? We promise it will make you feel
better about Tiger Band and yourself!
Yours for
Tiger Band,
Larry Sloan C.
