Centrally located in the southeastern United States, Clemson University is blessed with a favorable climate. Click here for today’s weather.  The University is situated in the city of Clemson, South Carolina, which is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Clemson is 150 miles, a two-hour drive, from the major cities of Atlanta and Charlotte.

The city of Clemson and the University jointly operate a bus transit system that services the city and the University.  

Getting to Clemson University

From Atlanta, GA (approximately 128 miles)
I-85 N toward Charlotte, NC; take exit 19B to US-76 W to Clemson

From Charlotte, NC (approximately 135 miles)
I-85 S toward Atlanta, GA; take exit 19B to US-76 W to Clemson

From Columbia, SC (approximately 137 miles)
I-126 W to I-26 W toward Spartanburg, SC; exit I-385 W to Greenville, SC; exit I-85 S toward
Atlanta, GA; take exit 19B to US-76 W to Clemson

From Jacksonville, FL (approximately 425 miles)

From Asheville, NC (approximately 93 miles)
US-74 W to US-23 S to I-240 S to I-40 E toward Winston-Salem, NC; exit I-26 E toward Charleston, SC; exit US-25 S toward Travelers Rest; exit US-123 W toward Easley; go through Easley, SC, on 123 to Clemson

Planes and Trains

The international airport at Greenville/Spartanburg is 45 minutes (45 miles) from Clemson.  This airport is serviced by American Eagle, Continental, Comair, Delta Airlines, Northwest Airlines, United Express and US Airways.

 The airports in Atlanta and Charlotte are around a two-hour drive from the University.  Clemson is easily accessible off of Interstate 85 (10-minute drive).  An AMTRAK station is also located in Clemson with daily scheduled service.

’55 Exchange

The ‘55 Exchange is the primary retail sales location for the university's famous ice cream.  Made possible by a generous gift from Clemson's Class of 1955, the ’55 Exchange is a student run retail operation that sells and serves Clemson’s world famous ice cream and other Clemson produced items, including meat, organic produce, and blue cheese.  All revenues generated through the retail center go to support Clemson students and academic programs.


The Canteen

The Canteen is a popular stop-off for students to grab a bite between classes or at mealtime.  Located in the University Union, it has a large selection ranging from breakfast staples to grilled foods to flavored coffees.  Try Li'l Dino Deli, Bene Pizza, Chick-fil-A, Sushi, Miso Grill, Salad Garden, and Clemson ice cream.


Chili's Too

Chili's Too opened its doors on Monday, January 12, 2004.  It is located next door to Harcombe Dining Hall and features sandwiches, burgers, salads, fajitas, the famous baby back ribs and many more items.  Chili's Too accepts Paw Points, TigerStripe, cash, business/organization checks and credit cards.  In addition to the soft drinks and tea, Chili's Too offers a variety of beer, wine & margaritas.



Clemson House

From fried chicken to chicken Caesar wraps, the Clemson House offers specialties that will satisfy even the most discerning tastes.  It features both a la carte and "meal equivalency" meal plan service.  A meal plan meal consists of an entrée, two vegetables, a drink, bread, and a salad or dessert.


Einsteins Bros. Bagels

Einsteins features a variety of bagels & shmears, sandwiches, salads, bagel dogs, gourmet coffee and much more. It is located on the 2nd floor of the Hendrix Center.


East Side Food Court

East Side Food Court is located in the Hendrix Student Center on the eastside of campus.  Grab a burger or sandwich from Burger King or the Li'l Dino Deli.  Home Zone features hearty entrees, chicken strips, rotisserie chicken with delicious side dishes and pizza.  Tortilla Express is a new concept at the food court that features tacos, burritos and nachos.  Satisfy your sweet tooth with Clemson University ice cream and Freshen's cool smoothies from Tiger Treats.  Also available is sushi, made fresh daily.

Clemson Blue Cheese and Blue Cheese Dressing are also sold over the counter at the East Side Food Court.


Fernow Street

Conveniently located on Fernow Street between Riggs and Freeman halls, the café is another popular place to grab food between classes or at mealtime.  It offers deli sandwiches, grill items, Pizza Hut Express, Tsunami Sushi, salads and more.


Java City - Cyber Cafe
Cooper Library, Clemson University, (864) 656-6858

Located on the 5th floor of the Cooper Library, Java City features the finest hand-roasted coffees, refreshing iced and blended drinks, as well as fresh-baked pastries, select sandwiches and salads and Sushi.  Relax and enjoy your beverage and pastry while you study, check your email or socialize at the Cyber Café.



Seasons by the Lake

Seasons by the Lake offers a taste of South Carolina at Clemson University.  We specialize in seafood, poultry and the finest quality beef, while incorporating local ingredients, such as the University’s own Clemson Blue Cheese.  Come join us in Joe’s Place, located within Seasons by the Lake Restaurant, for a drink before dinner or a taste of the bar menu.  Seasons overlooks Lake Hartwell and the 18th green of the Walker Golf Course. Each season is dramatically displayed just outside our windows for your dining pleasure.  This spectacular view is the origin of our name.

Visiting Campus & CAFLS

Visitors must display a valid guest parking permit to park on campus except when parked for less than 3 hours in areas specifically designated as timed spaces, or areas designated as public parking for a special event. A parking citation can be issued for improper parking, an expired meter or parking overtime in a timed space. Maximum time limits for parking meters are posted on each meter and may vary by location and time of day.

  • Visitor parking permits are available from Parking Services in G01 Edgar Brown Union.
    One-day visitor parking permits may also be obtained from the Visitors Center at 109 Daniel Drive and, after hours, from the University Police Department at Memorial Stadium on Centennial Blvd.

Driving Directions To Visitors Center

  • Follow I-85 towards Atlanta
  • Take exit 19B off of I-85 towards Clemson University (Hwy 76/28). 
  • Merge onto Hwy 76/28 and follow west for approximately 15 miles. 
  • After passing the Clemson Armory -fork onto exit for Clemson University (Hwy 93). 
  • At the top of the exit ramp, take a left towards the University. 
  • At the first traffic light, bear to the right onto N. Palmetto Blvd.
  • Proceed 0.2 miles and at the stop sign bear left towards the Visitors Center which will be on your right at the bottom of the cul-de-sac.

Driving Directions To CAFLS – located in 101 Barre Hall

  • Take a left out of Visitors Center parking lot
  • At the stop sign, make a right onto Daniel Dr.
  • Turn right on Lee St and then left onto N. Palmetto Blvd.
  • At the traffic light, go straight onto Cherry Road.
  • Follow through a three way stop and at the next traffic light (next to the Hendrix Student Center) turn right onto McMillian Road. 
  • Follow McMillian to the end and turn left (in front of the cul-de-sac) onto a small drive with about 8 visitor parking spots. 
  • Barre Hall is the building to your right. 
  • Come into Barre Hall at the doors facing these parking spots

Additional hotels near Anderson, SC, at I-85 exit 19 (route 76) are approximately 15 to 20 minutes from campus. Rooms are not reserved at these hotels.
