Setting the Standard

The Clemson Forest, 17,500 acres of woodland, streams and fields, is the largest experimental forest in the United States adjacent to a university campus.

The University campus is home to the 270-acre S.C. Botanical Garden, one of the Southeast's finest collections of plants and trees for teaching, research and public enjoyment. It also features nature based sculptures by internationally recognized artists, children's nature programs, annual festivals, public lectures and nature walks.

Students and faculty can gain international experience through the college's cooperative exchange agreements with schools in France, Scotland, Costa Rica and other countries.

Clemson's Sonoco Packaging Science Laboratory is the only public-access packaging laboratory in the Southeast and one of only a few in the world available to private industry for research.

Partnerships

A partnership with the Greenwood Genetic Center allows graduate students to conduct basic research in human genetics. Physicians and scientists at Greenwood direct the research in collaboration with Clemson faculty from the Department of Genetics and Biochemistry.

Sonoco Products Company has funded the purchase of equipment for the Sonoco Packaging Science Laboratory, provided funding for packaging science scholarships and employed undergraduate packaging students as co-ops and interns.

Cryovac endowed a chair in packaging science and provides adjunct faculty for both packaging science and food science. Courses in food science and graphic communications are a part of the packaging science core curricula. Cryovac employs many Clemson graduates from all three departments and also hires undergraduates as interns and co-op students.

The Wallace F. Pate Foundation for Environmental Research and Education at DeBordieu in Georgetown supports coastal teaching and research activities through the S.C. Agriculture and Forestry Research System at Clemson. (back to top)

Vision

"The vision of our college is to be the preeminent educational and research institution dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of the citizens of South Carolina. The restructuring of the disciplines of agriculture, forestry and life sciences gives us a strategic advantage to accomplish this goal. This includes expanding interdisciplinary teams to enhance and improve our educational, research and public service activities, fostering team-based problem solving approaches with our constituents in the state, and optimizing the use of resources. By capitalizing on these challenging opportunities we will be able to meet our responsibilities to provide the highest quality education for our students and the highest quality public service to the state."
