Dr. Clementina Adams was born in Barranquilla, Colombia and lived in Bogotá a good number of years. She began her career as a specialist in Hispanic literature and culture, in her country, and then she focused her post graduate studies in the area of Educational Psychology and Instructional Systems at Florida State University. She has been teaching Spanish at Clemson University since fall 1998. Her research publications include three books: Rebeldía, Denuncia y Justicia Social: Voces Enérgica de Autoras Hispanoamericanas y Espa?olas; Common Threads: Afro-Hispanic Women’s Literature; and Referencias Cruzadas: Entrevistas al escritor panameño Enrique Jaramillo-Levi, with Elba Birmingham-Pokorny. In addition, she has a large number of chapters in books, and articles on Latin American writers in general, and Hispanic and Afro-Hispanic women in particular, which have been published in refereed journal as well as part of conference proceedings. Currently, she is the director of the Language and International Health program. One of her current projects is a comparative study of Spanish and Chinese traditional and folk medicine, in conjunction with Associate Professor of Chinese Yanhua Zhang. Dr. Adams has been working in service learning projects with her students, since 1993.
