This is a writing and speaking intensive course whose purpose is to introduce students to the German upper level. Through discussion of short works and selections by famous German, Austrian and Swiss authors will gain exposure to the development of German history and culture from the beginning of the 20th century to our day. This course will also focus on the daily news in Germany to familiarize students with topics of current interest to the German people – both domestic and international – from a German perspective. In addition, short articles in print from on-line resources such as Tagesschau, Focus and Der Spiegel, we will also watch and discuss short unedited news broadcasts on a variety of topics.
